The election results across the 4 states – West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala and 1 Union Territory – Puducherry have been declared on Thursday.

Jayalalithaa on this triumph said that in the opinion of people it’s her historic win against the “family rule” of DMK. “This election has upheld true democracy shattering to pieces the campaign of lies of DMK,” she said in a statement as her party wins by a large number of votes in May 16 Assembly elections. “My life is dedicated to the people of Tamil Nadu,” said Jayalalithaa.

The results declared in 220 seats, AIADMK clocked a 40.8 percent vote share, a marginal increase from the 39.08 percent in 2011, despite contesting without major allies. AIADMK, which fielded its candidates in 227 seats, made sure its small-time allies also contested on the party’s Two Leaves symbol, virtually making its presence felt in all 234 seats. However, elections were held only for 232 segments as the Election Commission had deferred polling in Aravakurichi and Thanjavur to May 23 following allegations of money power.

An Undeterred Spirit Met the Success – Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee, has stormed back to power on Thursday in West Bengal. Contesting the poll on its own, TMC bagged 211 of the 294 seats at stake while Left-Congress combine got 76 seats and getting more than two-thirds majority decimating the opposition Left-Congress alliance while BJP captured three seats. TMC had secured 184 seats in 2011 Assembly election when it had fought in alliance with Congress.

Banerjee won generously with a 25,000 plus margin from Bhabanipur and also made the Trinamool only party in the state to emerge victorious in the Assembly election by fighting alone since 1962.

Historic Triumph – The BJP on Thursday won the elections to form its first government in the northeast, ousting the Congress in Assam after its 15-year uninterrupted rule. BJP chief ministerial candidate Sarbananda Sonowal expressed happiness over the results and said the party would put in its best efforts to fulfill the expectations of the people of Assam, as the party along with its allies won 86 of the total 126 seats and pushing ruling Congress to a dismal defeat. Its allies AGP and BPF have 14 and 12 seats respectively. Congress was decimated to only 26 seats compared to 68 in the outgoing Assembly and its dream of returning to power for the fourth consecutive term was shattered.

Congress Less Kerala – CPI (M) led LDF, which came to power in Kerala defeating Congress headed UDF, has secured a vote share of 39.9 percent, besides claiming a major portion of the 5.3 percent votes garnered by independents in the May 16 Assembly polls. The LDF has won 91 seats– CPI (M) accounting for 58, CPI 19, Janata Dal (S) 3, NCP 2, KC-B, CMP, RSP (L) and Congress (S) one each and LDF supported independents 5. CPI (M) the lead partner, got 26.5 percent vote share (53, 65, 472 votes) while CPI garnered 8.1 percent vote share (16, 43,878 votes).

Geared Up for a New Government – On Thursday, Congress-DMK combine proceeding towards victory after winning 13 of the 30 constituencies in the Puducherry Assembly elections. With the declaration of 25 constituencies’ results, Congress won 12 seats and was leading in three others while DMK got one seat and ahead in another as the alliance looked set for a comfortable majority. On other hand, AINRC managed to win only eight seats, including the Indira Nagar constituency by party founder and Chief Minister N Rangasamy. AIADMK won three seats and emerged the victor in one constituency.
